About "Swanfall"
Death
is something which affects all of us but we still have no caring and
structured way of dealing with this most important of transitions.
Instead if we are not lucky enough to gain the support of family and
friends or brave enough to take advantage of the support of
professionals we can be left quite literally like a fish out of water -
literally struggling to take the next breath.
Swanfall is a new way of dealing with death - -- by
using story and personal experience to help prepare for it. Swanfall
uses the power of story and the honesty of one person's experience to
encourage people to open up their locked box of memory and come to
terms with their fear and grief by sharing common ground.
This November "Swanfall" launches with a special programme of work designed for years 5 and 6 entitled "Are You Having a Laugh" which will be touring Powys junior/primary schools in Powys.
This takes the idea that everyone has to get used to lives which can involve comedy one minute and tragedy the next. Steve Gladwin has devised a special programme in 3 very different sessions. In Session One he tells a series of "Silly Tales", designed to make you laugh, (a lot). This is suitable for children of all ages if schools wish.
Two further sessions follow. In Session Two Steve leads the children in a comedy workshop which will explore things like timing, clowning, how to trip on a banana skin, and open up the mysteries of the "box of delights".
In Session Three stories are presented which now include some element of los and change, after which children and teachers are asked to respond to the day through both discussion and story, painting etc.
Teachers will also eventually be able to find further information, quotes links to stories, exercises on the actual "Are You Having A Laugh" page.
